The Role

Play a key role in delivering Worcestershire’s BSIP vision

We’re looking for a proactive, technically minded Systems Development & Data Engineer to help deliver some of Worcestershire’s most important transport technology projects. Working as part of our Highways & Transport Systems team, you’ll support the rollout of key BSIP and Enhanced Partnership schemes that improve the reliability, accessibility and modernisation of public transport across the county.

This role is ideal for someone with experience in transport, technology or digital systems who enjoys leading complex projects and turning ideas into delivered outcomes.

What You’ll Do

You will take responsibility for delivering a portfolio of high-profile transport technology projects. Your work will involve:

  • Leading the development and delivery of systems such as real-time passenger information, smart ticketing, and wider public transport digital infrastructure
  • Managing budgets, suppliers, contracts and system performance
  • Preparing business cases, briefs and reports to support investment decisions
  • Providing technical advice on emerging transport technologies and system improvements
  • Working with operators, partners and internal teams to ensure smooth delivery
  • Using data and intelligence to support better decision-making and evidence project impact
  • Responding to enquiries and supporting customer-facing communications

Your work will directly support Worcestershire’s BSIP priorities and the wider modernisation of the network.

What We’re Looking For 

We strongly encourage candidates to clearly evidence how they meet the essential criteria in the person specification.

You should bring:

  • Experience leading or delivering significant projects in a technical, transport or digital environment
  • Strong understanding of ICT systems, data, or technology implementation
  • Confident project management skills with the ability to manage budgets, suppliers and competing priorities
  • Good analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex information and present it clearly
  • Excellent communication and partnership working skills
  • Ability to work effectively within a political, customer-facing and fast-moving environment

It would be an advantage if you have experience working in highways, transport or public transport systems, but this is not essential.
