Clifton‑upon‑Teme Primary School is seeking to appoint an exceptional and motivated Deputy Headteacher to join our senior leadership team from September 2026. We are a village primary school who work to Inspire Minds and Shape futures. Would you like to become a part of our future? 

We have an exciting opportunity for a committed leader to play a pivotal role in shaping the strategic direction of the school, supporting the Interim Headteacher in driving school improvement, and ensuring the highest standards of teaching, learning and wellbeing for all pupils.

The successful candidate will work in close partnership with the Interim Headteacher and Governors and will be well‑placed to further develop their senior leadership experience within a supportive and collaborative environment. 

An interest in, or experience of, SEND leadership would be an advantage, but not essential, as the successful candidate will contribute to strengthening inclusive practice and provision for pupils with additional needs.

The Role

As Deputy Headteacher, you will:

  • Provide strong, visible leadership that reflects the school’s vision, values and community ethos
  • Support and deputise for the Headteacher as required
  • Play a leading role in school self‑evaluation and improvement planning
  • Lead and develop high‑quality teaching, learning and curriculum provision
  • Use data effectively to improve pupil outcomes and reduce disparities
  • Lead safeguarding and pupil welfare at a senior level
  • Line‑manage and develop staff through effective appraisal, coaching and mentoring
  • Contribute to the strategic and operational leadership of the school
  • Strengthen partnerships with parents, carers, governors and external agencies

Safeguarding

Clifton‑upon‑Teme Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. The successful applicant will be required to undergo all relevant safeguarding checks, including an enhanced DBS check.

 Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Leadership and School Improvement

  • Support the Headteacher and Governing Body in setting, communicating and delivering the school’s vision, values and strategic priorities.
  • Play a leading role in school self‑evaluation and the development, implementation and review of the School Improvement Plan.
  • Lead agreed whole‑school priorities and improvement initiatives, ensuring demonstrable impact on outcomes for pupils.
  • Contribute to policy development and ensure effective implementation across the school to include alignment with website compliance.
  • Deputise for the Headteacher as required, including leading the school on a day‑to‑day basis when necessary.

2. Teaching, Learning and Curriculum

  • Promote and secure consistently high standards of teaching and learning across the school.
  • Be an outstanding role model as a classroom practitioner, through the range of primary ages, demonstrating high expectations for all pupils.
  • Lead the development, implementation and review of agreed aspects of the curriculum, assessment and reporting.
  • Monitor and evaluate the quality of teaching and learning through lesson observations, learning walks, pupil outcomes and work scrutiny.
  • Use performance and progress data effectively to inform improvement actions and reduce gaps in attainment.
  • Ensure the systematic teaching of basic skills and high‑quality provision for all pupil groups, including SEND and disadvantaged pupils.

3. Safeguarding and Pupil Welfare

  • Provide senior leadership for safeguarding and child protection, acting as Designated Safeguarding Lead where appropriate.
  • Promote and safeguard the welfare of all children and young people in line with statutory guidance and school policy.
  • Ensure safeguarding procedures are robust, understood and consistently applied by all staff.
  • Maintain a strong culture of vigilance and pastoral care throughout the school.

4. Staff Leadership and Development

  • Line manage support staff as agreed, providing clear expectations and professional support.
  • Contribute to recruitment and selection processes to ensure high‑quality appointments.
  • Promote a positive, inclusive and aspirational staff culture.

5. Operational and Organisational Leadership

  • Support the effective day‑to‑day organisation and smooth running of the school.
  • Ensure systems, procedures and routines meet statutory and policy requirements.
  • Promote consistent approaches to behaviour, attendance and punctuality.
  • Contribute to personnel, staffing and resource management as directed by the Headteacher.
  • Ensure clear systems of communication within the school community.

6. Community, Partnership and Governance

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with parents and carers to support positive outcomes for pupils.
  • Strengthen partnerships with governors, external agencies, local schools and the wider community.
  • Contribute to reporting on school performance to governors and stakeholders.
  • Promote inclusion, equality and the values and ethos of the school at all times.

General Responsibilities

  • Undertake professional duties reasonably delegated by the Headteacher.
  • Uphold the highest standards of professional conduct and integrity.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant statutory duties and school policies.
