CLASS TEACHER JOB DESCRIPTION AND PERSON SPECIFICATION


Role Purpose

To deliver high-quality teaching and learning experiences that inspire, challenge, and support pupils in achieving their full potential across the primary curriculum.


Key Responsibilities

  • Planning and Teaching: Design and deliver engaging lessons that meet the needs of all learners, following the national curriculum.

  • Assessment and Progress: Monitor and assess pupil progress, providing timely feedback and adapting teaching strategies accordingly.

  • Classroom Management: Create a positive, inclusive, and safe learning environment that promotes respect, curiosity, and independence.

  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of pupil achievement, behaviour, and attendance.

  • Parent and Community Engagement: Communicate effectively with parents/carers and contribute to the wider school community.

  • Professional Development: Participate in training, staff meetings, and school initiatives to continuously improve practice.

  • Safeguarding: Uphold safeguarding policies and procedures to ensure the welfare of all pupils.

Qualifications

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

Degree in Education or relevant subject

Experience

Experience teaching in a primary setting

Experience with SEND or EAL pupils

Knowledge

Strong understanding of the national curriculum

Knowledge of current educational research and pedagogy

Skills

Excellent communication, organisation, and behaviour management skills

Ability to integrate technology into teaching

Personal Qualities

Enthusiastic, resilient, reflective, and child-centred

Passionate about outdoor learning or creative arts

Commitment

Dedicated to inclusive education and continuous improvement

Willingness to lead extracurricular activities
